Hall thanks - x I am in agreement with these remarks. 23/1/28 Please return HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} PS8/IL.17.I.28 X4117 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} There appear to be two points with our cars to-day which require attention to bring them into line with the pregress already made in the perfection of our present models. These are: the exhaust and the thud. To me the noises caused by the exhausting gasses, both in the silencer and the down pipes on the engine, appear to be out of proportion to the general silence of our engine The engine thud appears to be a hereditary sin. The slipper drive appears to be too quickly affected as a result of standing by, and the resistance produced by the Bakerlite washers too easily affected by the viscosity of the oil used, and the condition of the surfaces of both washers and flywheels. I have seen the flywheel surfaces eaten into by what appears to be the acid in the oil. We are having an epidemic of thuds and slipper flywheel troubles. Nearly all new cars show this trouble up, probably due to their stay at the Coachmaker's or a long sea trip. In some cases it it hoped they will improve with use, but in quite a few cases we are compelled to pull the front down during final test routine. You are no doubt just as au courant as I am, but you once asked me to give you my impressions from time to time. Apart from these two points, I noticed continued and decided progress towards perfecting our present products. "HSH". HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
