To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Cricklewood, July 30th. With regard to the Marles steering taken off GUL-77 and sent to you for examination. The following is the information I have been able to obtain. The car came in for excessive loss of oil from the box. While looking for the reason for this it was noticed that there was approximately 4 inches of slack on the steering wheel. A new steering was ordered. The steering was dismantled from the car. It was then found that (1) the bijur pipe spigot was broken off and had dropped inside the box. Also a loose washer was observed inside the box. No further dismantling was carried out. The two halves were bolted up again, and sent as found. The split pins were removed in the first place to try to tighten up the nuts to cure the oil leak. G.W.Hancock. | ||
