X4333 EFC. c. Mr Brock. BY1-P3.10.23. X 4333 DYNAMO NO. 318. RE SPRING PRESSURES. Referring to EFC2/T11023, I was quite at a loss to understand how it was possible for springs only giving half the weight specified on the drawing to have been used on production without my knowledge. The Rough Stores Inspector who tests these springs was asked for an explanation. He stated that he told Mr Brocks Department that the springs were too light, but was informed by one of the foremen, apparently Mr Leech, that they could use them. The point I wish to bring out in this connection is, that there is no foreman in the Works has authority to use material which is not in accordance with drawing, unless he has a written memo from me agreeing to it. The difficulty now is that a large consignment of Dynamos will have been turned out with spring brushes too light, and since the Experimental Department have impressed upon us all along the importance of keeping the spring pressure up to drawing, the faults developing from this trouble will have to be corrected R.D.W. Will Mr Brock make it quite clear to everybody concerned that they have no authority to use any material without my consent, which departs in the least from drawing. The object of this note is to prevent the state of affairs referred to recurring. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} By | ||
