Re: 26-EX-

Brakes

"FN" will no doubt remember that during the Paris Salon this year the front wheel brake squeaked on this car. During its last visit here the rear brakes groaned as the car was brought to a standstill and the front wheel brakes squeaked as before.

The usual rebedding was carried out.

On a car we had trouble with recently on account of squeaking brakes we got on a new line. All the usual things were tried, bedding, new liners, etc, and we then eliminated as much as possible the vibration in brake shafts by reducing the play in the bearings we though with good results.

Cross steering tube

The loading at the ball ends was 6 lbs and we increased it to 18 lbs, we do not know what it was originally set at. This was done by packing washers between the springs and contact.

Side steering tube

Whether the springs had lost some of their original strength, we do not know but we packed them with washers and removed a certain amount of free movement at the joints. I suspect the springs collapsing but am not sure.

The same thing occured with the steering on 25-WJ our trials car here. In this case we packed the springs and made the steering right.

I should like to be able to give more precise details to help you but it cannot very well be done here.
