-2- RG{Mr Rowledge}/GML.10/KW. 27.2.35. Pistons I.C.F. RB.{R. Bowen}513 & RB.{R. Bowen}1299. Heat Treated in accordance with A.T.S. No. 16644/E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} The pistons have been free from knocks throughout the mileage. The fitting of the new scraper rings with enlarged release holes did not improve the oil consumption. The condition of the pistons was good when examined, all rings were free, bedding had not altered as reported at 10,000 miles. Piston ring stops were firm and showed no chattering. Carbon deposit was on heavy side. No appreciable wear was noticeable in the gudgeon pin bushes. Engine Mounting. We reported the bending of the front engine support tubes. These were turned round to line up the front of engine so that the starting handle could be engaged. No further trouble has been experienced since this operation. The rear engine support has given no trouble and does not give any indication of having dropped. Flywheel & Clutch, I.C.F. C.36054. The clutch has slipped on several occasions when engaging with second gear. The slipping occurs when full throttle is used, before the clutch is finally engaged, as when getting away on a hill, or a quick getaway on the level. It does not continue to slip, the engine races away momentarily after which the clutch takes up the drive. The slipping has not caused any excessive wear of the fabrics. It has not been dismantled for examination at this stage. The clutch jaggers when engaging on an incline or when engaging very lightly. The flywheel did not show any signs of fidgetting or becoming loose. | ||
