Dear Sir:

Re Bijur Drive

We now have the reply of the Bijur Company to the questions raised in Mr. Hives' letter HSG/LG.4.12.22. We attach a copy of their reply to each copy of this letter, and a set of their blue prints XC-521 and B-10298 A, to Mr. Royce's and Mr. Hives' copies.

1 - Motor characteristics
In view of their statements relative to the greater acceleration generally of 12 V.{VIENNA} motors, we referred your motor characteristic curves to them.
They consider that the curves given for the Rolls-Royce motor indicate that it should be able to use the Bijur pinion satisfactorily.

2 - Purchase of parts
They would prefer to supply the complete unit as shown on print XC-521, similar to the unit taken over by Mr. Platford.

3 - Layout
They recommend that the parts should not be lubricated as oil will interfere with the working of the clutch.
Since the small ball bearing on the end of the shaft will require oil, they propose omitting it altogether, which is their standard practice.
An alternative which they do not mention would be to use a plain or ball steady-bearing at the end, with small individual oil cup to take a few drops of oil occasionally.

This is their standard practice with layouts in which the pinion engages by movement outwards (i.e., away from the motor), and therefore would not cause harm to the clutch.
