Bailey - Chief Engineer} Ha/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}2/KT.12.8.32. REVERSE GEAR 20/25 HP. We have now tested a gearbox with a reverse gear to N.sch.3492. With this arrangement a stationary reverse shaft is not picked up when engaging 1st gear. The reverse shaft of the long pattern with a bearing each end and outside the gear wheels, showed no tendency to work out of gear, either under load or overrun. A dynamometer run of 15 minutes at full torque was carried out successfully. A further advantage of this scheme is that the lever is moved forward into reverse gear allowing the driving seat to be further forward. We recommend fitting this gear to production chassis as soon as possible. We anticipate that P.II and Peregrine will be fitted with a similar reverse gear. Ha/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} | ||
