We send you herewith a further scheme LeC.1460 for overcoming the trouble on the Goshawk 11. due to the hot spot. In this scheme as much of the hot jacket as possible is amalgamated with the exhaust pipe. The remainder, that is to say, that portion which is in one piece with the induction pipe, is the cooler part of the jacket, and is made in such a form that the change of section where the jacket finished, is not pronounced and als the heating effects should be graded off more gradually. The other design that we have in mind is one in which the hot spot is supplied with exhaust gas by a bye-pass pipe, the main exhaust pipe having nothing to do with it, but being fitted with a baffle valve connected with the accelerator pedal so that at the small throttle openings all the exhaust gas will pass to the hot spot.
