To Na.{Mr Nadin} } FROM Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} To OY. } c. to WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} X 457 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG6. 2.26. RE. HIGH SPEED STEERING WOBBLES. We attach herewith some of the experimental reports in connection with the above phenomenon. The facts briefly are, that we have no definite cure for high speed steering wobbles. We know of a number of palliatives which, if taken advantage of, will reduce the risk of wobbles to a minimum. Judging from the reports we have accumulated from different people on high speed wobbles, we think that we have more complete information on this trouble than most people. The fact that we have been able to reproduce these wobbles with the car stationary, has enabled us to actually observe the wobble in action. We have by means of an oscilloscope watched it under slow motion conditions. We have also proved definitely that the period of the wobble coincides with the revolution of the road wheel. It may get out of phase slightly in dying down, but the critical speed is undoubtedly the speed of the road wheel. We should be very grateful if you would let us know how this problem is being dealt with in the States. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
