We have been running in the Electrical Laboratory two of the latest type pumps on endurance tests. These pumps have run for a considerable period of time and up to the present no failures have been experienced. Both pumps were run for 120 hours each with an intermittent rating of 2 hours pumping normally and 2 hours running dry. At the conclusion of these tests, as both pumps were satisfactory, one of them was placed in an oven maintained at a constant temperature of 55°C. and has since run continuously pumping 64 hours without failure thus making 184 total hour running. The other pump continued its tests running dry and has since run a further 22 hours under these conditions making 144 hours complete. The dry test is a very stringent test on the pump mechanism as the speed of operation is considerably increased. Actually the pump oscillates approx. 900 times a min. dry as compared with 300 pumping petrol. Delivery tests with the pump cold and at 55°C. shewed no appreciable difference. We are continuing tests on these pumps to see if we can reproduce any failure. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. | ||
