X3409 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} ROY{Sir Henry Royce}20/MG23.10.28 ----------------- The British Belting & Asbestos Company have sent two samples of the latest type of Brake Lining they have recently placed on the Market - samples herewith - and write as follows: "Mintex Semi Rigid T.F.N. is a woven "brake lining of Asbestos and soft brass wire, treated with "a black impregnation. The approximate composition of this "material is: " Impregnation 14% " Cotton ...... 6% " Asbestos ... 54% " Brass Wire .. 26% "It has a density of 2.2 "The lining is very dense, shows a high resistance to "abrasion and on the National Physical Laboratory test gives a "rate of wear of about .003 (figures of .0015 have been recorded "on this test). "A typical test graph is enclosed from a National "Physical Laboratory type machine. "High pressure tests indicates that its coefficient "of friction rises with the temperature up to 700°F and remains "constant at about .55 at any temperature which a brake drum can "reach. "We have had a considerable number of road tests "made, particularly on heavy lorries and these have shown very "satisfactory results for wear and braking efficiency under "very arduous conditions. We have the greatest confidence "in recommending this lining as we believe it is the first woven "brake lining that has been produced." They will gladly send further samples for test should we be interested. ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} ENCLOSURE. Test Graph. 2. samples.
