X4038 Expl: Dept: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rnl/LG. 6th. May 1929. Messrs. H.M.Hobson Ltd., 47-55 Acton Vale, London W.3. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Major Searight. We thank you for your letter TPS/MV. of the 3rd.inst. and your letter of the 2nd.inst. We will try increasing the hole at the bottom of the air bell as you suggest. We think the behaviour of a KS.180 installation without the hand pump unit which has been run during the past 3 months on the Riviera may be of interest to you. During the time on the Riviera the car was driven at slow speeds on bad roads. The weather was typical of the Riviera climate. During this period the over-night loss was approx. constant 1 gall. On the return journey to England, however, the car was run at high speeds and the weather on the whole was exceptionally hot - the over-night loss of the whole was 4 galls. at Lyon. This seems to shew that high speeds in hot weather are liable to have more effect on the over-night loss reading of the gauge than low speeds. We feel practically certain that this car installation is correct - it has not a wet air line - as it has given no trouble apart from this of any kind. We think that this feature alone justifies the use of the hand pump in tropical climates. The car we are running in France will shortly be returning when you would possibly like to come up to the Works and discuss the failure of the glass tube in the gauge head as well as the general functioning of the gauge in France with our Tester who has been carrying out the work there. You might also like to discuss the servicing of the gauge now that we are going in production with it. Yours faithfully, | ||
