12677. To WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} E.1/HP.19.10.33. re Bentley type S.U. Pump. When it was decided that we should use two S.U. pumps on the Bentley we combined these together end to end on a common central mounting and produced here at these Works a very neat double pump unit, which as you are aware has been standardized. We are now asked by the S.U. Co. if we have any objection to this unit being supplied to other firms, and I attach herewith their letter of the 17th inst. together with a copy of an enquiry from Messrs. Scammell Lorries Ltd. concerning the Rolls-Royce unit. I would like to recommend that we give them permission to do what they ask provided we get something in return, in other words, if they are able to manufacture this double pump in larger quantities than we require by supplying it to other people then there ought to be a reduction in the price, both as regards the reduced cost of production and their obligation to us. May I please know whether you agree to this or not. ATT: E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
