84428. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}8/MA. April 25th, 1932. Messrs. Lodge Plugs Ltd., Rugby. For the attention of Mr. Bernard Hopps. Dear Sirs, With reference to your letters of the 7th, and 22nd inst., the position with regard to plugs is that we find the C.3. type satisfactory so far as freedom from preignition is concerned, but they misfire badly on our standard P.II car on magneto ignition up to 30 m.p.h; their predecessors the 'C' type plug were satisfactory with regard to pick up on magneto ignition, but gave trouble from preignition at high speeds. The S.1 plug appears to have the same characteristics as the C.3 but in a more pronounced form, its low speed performance is inferior to the C.3 but it is satisfactory at high speed. The low speed failure is not a question of heat, it occurs at all times accelerating up to about 30 m.p.h. either on full or part throttle. We believe Mr. Robotham is taking this matter up with you. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
