DEPOT SHEET. 20.10.37. BENTLEY - REAR AXLE. There are three types of failure which have to be dealt with :- (a). Method of dealing with axle when slack in driving dogs is cause of complaint. In this case we should replace driver G.100050 and G.B.2589 by G.B.2710, the latter has splines which are short axially, but with increased surface. To enable above driver to be fitted, the rear hubs require to be modified to drawing GB.2708/9, and in addition GB.2900 Rear End Cover, should be fitted to replace GB.35. We must obtain a supply of hubs to GB.2708/9 from Dunlops. I would suggest 12 pairs to enable a start to be made - the replaced hubs will if not worn too much be machined to bring them into line with drawing GB.2708/9. If hubs are too far gone we charge customer for new parts if outside guarantee; if not, we take charge fifty-fifty, but I think cars in guarantee will have hubs capable of being machined to new drawing. (b). Failure of driving shafts or drivers. When this occurs or if the shafts are badly twisted as evidenced by the splines at outer end, then we fit the stiffened axle shafts and drivers to G.CD.23, as list given below :- Sec.6120.
