J.W.S.A To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Gor. c. to S c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to F.{Mr Friese} c. to Lr.{Mr Ellor} We have today received the following cable from RGU. in U.S.A. - "ALLISON BEARINGS HAVING STANDARD OIL GROOVE TESTED TONIGHT APPARENTLY SATISFACTORY DISMANTLE FORBING STOP UNDERSTAND CONDITION SIXTY TWENTY STOP TWENTY FIVE BRINELL STOP COOLING TEN MINUTES THREE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED RPM. DOUBLE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT NINETY CENTIGRADE MAXIMUM READING TEMPERATURE ONE TWENTY FIVE CENTIGRADE STOP STRIPPING CONDITION WILL DECIDE BEARINGS FOR NEXT TEST. COVENTRY". We have replied to this cable saying that we are anxiously awaiting confirmation of this success and also the results of running the bearings which were made at Derby and taken out with a rig which should give a direct comparison under exactly similar conditions of the relative value of Allison's and Derby bearings. At the moment it sounds too good to be true. We have asked RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} also as soon as the tests are confirmed to despatch immediately to Derby three sets of bearings.
