1487 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}10/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 2nd December, 1937. T.C. Skinner, Esq., S.U. Carburetter Co.,Ltd., Bordesley Green Road, BIRMINGHAM. 8. Dear Mr. Skinner, I wonder whether it would be convenient for you to come to Derby sometime before long to talk round the price of carburetters and petrol pumps. As you know, we are out to support Companies financed by British capital as far as possible. We have, however, during the past 12 months been carrying out some extensive tests on the double-choke Stromberg carburetter and the A.C. petrol pump. There is no doubt that the double-choke Stromberg carburetter does a very good job, and, of course, its float chamber arrangement is the best of any carburetter on the market. The latest A.C. petrol pump, which is the one in which we are interested, has about twice the capacity of those ordinarily fitted to English cars, and, additionally, can be arranged so that it projects into the air stream. We carried out a lot of tests on the Continent this Summer, and it is really astonishingly free from vapour lock if fitted up in the right position. Briefly, we are considering increasing our volume and reducing our cost, and it is quite clear that if we are to appeal to a wider market our prices have got to come down. | ||
