Contd. -2- EFC2/T23.7.20. armature. We refer to balance of the magnetic pulls and not to inertia out-of-balance forces. Smith dynamos, so far, are not noisy. X.4060b. We have reported to you in our EFC1/T17.6.20 of our arrangement with Messrs. Lucas to make up experimentally three C.575 machines to give a performance according to our specification. We are, however, rather doubtful as to whether they will be able to secure this performance. They themselves are confident that they can, but they have also been confident all along that they can silence the E.575 machine. During Mr. Breedon's last visit he expressed the opinion that this could easily have been done if the seriousness of the matter had been realised by them earlier on. We cannot understand this not being the case, as we at Derby have repeatedly mentioned the seriousness of this feature to them and have also all along urged for them to produce a dynamo of better cutting in speed and output than the present. The result of this is that we cannot dissociate ourselves from the feeling that Messrs. Lucas have not given, either from disinterestedness or from pressure of other matters, the attention that one would have felt they would have given to our communications from time to time. EFC. | ||
