Messrs. Rolls-Royce. Ltd.,
The Hyde,
Hendon. N.W.9.

Dear Sirs,

Re Chassis GRP-23.

We duly received for repair under claim in accordance with order No. 8661 the combined oil gauge and thermometer removed from the above chassis.

It is regretted that difficulty should have been experienced with this particular accessory but the instrument shows signs of having received an external shock which has resulted in the bourdon tube becoming set out.

In view of the circumstances, we regret that we cannot accept responsibility in this instance and therefore attach hereto for your kind consideration an estimate indicating the cost of the repairs now involved; on receipt of official instructions to proceed at the figure quoted despatch of a suitable replacement will be effected with as little delay as possible.

As instructed, a copy of this report in duplicate is being sent along to Derby clearly marked "for the attention of references RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} and ROY{Sir Henry Royce}/JT".

We remain,
Yours faithfully,
For S. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES) LTD.,

NB/E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}

G.E. HESTER.
SERVICE MANAGER.
