re Wraith Ignition Coil Failure
on WXA.99.

An ignition coil to D.75673 was returned from Cricklewood under their report No.N.1733, in which the coil was alleged to be defective.

The coil was initially examined by By/RD. and RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/Smd.{J. Smedley} and, we gather, did show signs of weakness on the production test rig, but on being taken out of the case, no defect could be found and in this condition functioned perfectly.

The coil was then put back in its case and handed to us for test. We have subjected this coil to all our bench tests also to 400 miles on the road; no signs of weakness can be found.

We can only conclude that either the production test rig was in the first case at fault or that a fault was eliminated in removing the coil from its case.

In a case such as the above, we would run less risk of loosing valuable evidence of possible causes of breakdown, if the laboratory were allowed to measure electrical constants of the coil before dismantling.
