To R from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Copy to BH. Copy to FFC. X 4241 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}6/CB20-1-21. RE "GOSHAWK II" - RADIATOR & BONNET. X.4241 We send herewith a print of "N" Scheme 709 shewing the proposed bonnet for Goshawk II, based on the dimensions given on LeC.1320. We have shewn the arrangement of the hinge on the top of the bonnet, so as to avoid an excessive overhang at the ends of the hinge. We have also indicated the fasteners in accordance with some improvement which Mr Royce suggested in connection with the 40/50, during our visit to West WitteringHenry Royce's home town some little while ago, with the view of making the hook handles neat and at the same time making the fastener studs more convenient as handles. X.4240 We also send a print of "N" Scheme 710 shewing the radiator dimensions, also from LeC.1320. For the mounting of the radiator we have adopted the original scheme on Goshawk I. We are not sure whether it is intended to fit a shutter, a short circuit thermostat, or neither, in view of the expense, so that we have not dealt with this matter on the radiator drawing, but if it is intended to fit either of these arrangement, we would make a scheme adapted from the "Buzzard" drawing.
