re. PEREGRINE 4.

As tested during Easter. Very charming and interesting car, and as a type an attractive selling proposition. Nice to handle and drive, holds the road well, and exceptionally good performance. Gear change very good and nice working clutch. Silence generally O.K. i.e. inlet and exhaust.
noted
Points requiring attention before chassis can be considered satisfactory for production are as follows:-

(1) Engine vibration over 35 m.p.h. feels to be a question of balance (crank or reciprocating parts.)

(2) "Rattle" on pick-up 15 to 30 m.p.h. Sounds like engine gears, but can appreciate from gear box. Slack in gears or synchro mesh parts.

(3) Carburation - poor for idling and low engine speeds. Good for speeds and acceleration.

(4) Gear Box - gears fairly good for quietness but consider higher standard should be obtained. Side shaft idling poor - could not pass as standard.

(5) Slack in drive - may be same cause as (2).

(6) Starting - a more definite petrol supply is indicated. Starter stuck occasionally and engagement seems uncertain.

(7) Brakes very effective - but "thumps" bad.

As regards (1) - certain features which rattle by vibration should be considered for clearance or damping, i.e. side levers, pedals, controls in steering column.

Axle and exhaust booms seemed O.K. but rather drowned by fuss and boom (engine vibrations).
