X7941. We have today received the following note from G.W.Hancock re. 23-EX car. - "We have held the car up today to investigate the seizure of the exhaust cut out. We dismantled the silencer and the unit of the cut out, and found that the spindle of the cut out had seized in the bronze bushes, we had to cut away the rivets, and drill out the rivets holding the butterfly valve before we could withdraw the spindle. The bronze bushes had apparently grown, as they were tight in the housings and had become less in dia. than the spindle, the spindle was not torn or dragged, its simply a case of more initial clearance wanted. The appearance of the bushes show they have been very hot. We have also had a failure of the battery box. The rear flange that is held by the cross-member has broken right away from the box, we have rivetted a new angle piece on the box. We had this failure on either 18-EX or 22-EX, I am not quite sure which, but it seems to be a weakness of the battery box." Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} | ||
