SPECTRECodename for Phantom III VALVE SPRINGS.
--------------------
In reply to your memo. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/KW.23.2.35. on the above subject, in which you state that the SpectreCodename for Phantom III valve springs modified to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1607 have failed, we are not surprised, as the springs as designed were stressed right up to the limit, in order to get as much load as possible with the single spring.
We have already issued some double valve springs to LeC 4124 in a memo. to you, E/PSN.1/MN.28.9.34, which were intended for the short duration camshaft, but as these have rather higher loadings than the present single springs they can be used with the present camshaft.
It should also be noted that as shown on LeC 4124 they are not stressed quite as highly as the original single spring, and hence would stand a little pulling out if this is found necessary.
We are also looking into the possibility of getting increased loading with a single spring.
E/PSN.
