£800 CAR.

DESIGN POSITION.

Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} pointed out that the £800 car would be the Ripplet when all the sections at present being redesigned to reduce cost, had been incorporated in it.

It also relied on the body being produced by Park Wards for £225.

The cost per unit of machining would have to be lower than on B.V. as produced in the Derby Factory.

The first job for the Costs and Planning Section to deal with when they come into existence would be to confirm that this car can be produced for £800.

RIPPLETTO.

Though a considerable amount of design work has already been done on this chassis, no specification has yet been issued.

Since it is hoped that this car will be produced for £450 it is imperative that the specification should include all the cheapened designs of the rationalised range of parts. For this reason the specification will be held up until these designs have been completed.

In parallel with the specification for the Rippletto chassis must go the specification for the £150 body or the projected selling price of £450 will not materialise.

It is more than probable that complete tooling will be necessary in order to obtain this figure and the necessary analysis is being carried out by the Pressed Steel Co.,
