x967 BJ. from Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} c. to R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJr c. to En. c. to EF. c. to EH. WD{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}8/NJ26.9.19. Re. Vacuum Oil Co. Ltd. I have received a copy of the letter which Mr. Royce addressed to you on 23rd inst.(R8/G23919) and to make matters perfectly clear to you, I attach hereto copy of my letter WD{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}4/NJ 19919 to C.(Sales), also copy of the note (C7/H23919) which C. addressed to me in reply. I have ascertained that neither EF. nor EH. have had any correspondence or interviews with the Vacuum Oil Co.Ltd. or any of their representatives, and neither EF. nor EH. have stated that Gargoyle Mobiloil "A" is suitable for R.R.engines. I have ascertained from EF. and EH. that some time last April Sales Dept. sent us some forms from the Vacuum Oil Co. which they (Vacuum Oil Co) desired us to fill in, but as we do not recommend the Vacuum Co's oils, we did not fill in the forms, nor did we address any communication whatever to them. I think there is no doubt that the Vacuum Oil Co. are entirely responsible for the recommendation of their Gargoyle Mobiloil "A" for use in R.R.cars and I think that a letter, some-what in the terms of the draft given below, might be addressed to that Company with advantage:- "With reference to your advertisement, page 85, "supplement XV, the "Motor", 17th Sept.1919, which comprises "a chart of recommendations", we note that you thereby "recommend Gargoyle Mobiloil "A" as suitable for the engines "of our cars and we shall be pleased to learn your grounds "for such recommendation, as we cannot find that we have "made any tests or expressed any opinion regarding its suita- "bility for our cars. "Before we could express such an opinion, it would "be necessary for us to carry out exhaustive trials and, for "this purpose, we should require 40 gallon samples of the two "or three classes of oil which you might consider suitable "for our cars and we should also require to know whether the "oils submitted to us are pure mineral oils or combined oils "and, if the latter, the percentage of mineral to other oil, "or oils." I shall be obliged if you will let me know what you decide to do with regard to this matter. Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} WD{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}4/NJ19919 att. C7/H23919 att. | ||
