Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Snth3/KW OUR REF. JNL/KM Dear Dr. Smith, I thank you for your letter of the 14th. of May concerning the bursting speed of No. 6 material. At the time you communicated the results of your tensile tests on the American disc compared with the Ferodo No. 6 disc certain thoughts occurred to me which caused me to put your letter on one side for answering in detail. I think from the way the discs are made that the plain question of tensile is hardly sufficient indication of the quality of a clutch facing in withstanding centrifugal force. We are arranging to gear up the high speed end of our test machine to give 4,000 - 7,000 r.p.m., but it will be a week or two before we can get the materials for doing this. In the meantime we are carrying out tests to determine the coefficient of friction of No.6 at all temperatures, as you request. This will take two or three days. Yours faithfully, FERODO LIMITED M ougley CHIEF CHEMIST & DIRECTOR. | ||
