1021. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}7/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 27th August, 1938. N.H. Manning, Esq., Messrs. Briggs Motor Bodies Limited, DAGENHAM, Essex. Dear Manning, I have been looking up some cost figures on all steel bodies which were got out for us by a Gentleman called Green who has been in the body building business for about 20 years, and who has graduated from coach-building to very large quantities of pressed steel bodies. His figure for cost of Shell in White was £28 if £76,000 were expended on dies. Though the body size has gone up slightly since then, your figure of £42 does seem considerably higher than his estimate. I thought you would like to have this information as it may be quoted against you when you discuss the subject with Hives. Yours sincerely, | ||
