C.O.S. 17/12/14 COPY. To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} for Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} R12/IB161214. December 16th.1914 Double Rear Brakes combined with old type Torque Tubes. X.713 Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}4/161114. My suggestion with reference to this experiment was to see whether the old type torque rod would have stood up to the work had we used the double rear brakes, which might have avoided some of the excessive strains. The test, therefore, to carry out with this car if ready, would be to try and damage, without causing an accident, the old torque tube by application of the foot brake, and skidding the back wheels by the rear brakes only, on a dry surface. If Mr Haldenby cannot get any sense out of this experiment, ask him to cancel it. F.H.R. | ||
