It is quite evident from the facts of the case so far arrived at that the present Bakelite case for the ignition coil is not satisfactory. Although quite a number of minor improvements have been tried with the object of overcoming the difficulty while still maintaining Bakelite type case, so far we have quite failed in this direction, and therefore since production must go on, and obviously we must not include in the car items which are still giving trouble, the only way I see out of difficulty at the moment is to change the material of the case from the Bakelite type material to Stabalite or Beldalite preferably the latter. In regard to stabalite and Beldalite they are both rubber base materials, but the latter is so produced as not to stiffen at any temperature below 130°C, whereas Stabalite belongs to the series which stiffen at approximately 85-90°C. For the present I certainly recommend going ahead with Stabalite, which is our 40/50 material, but try and obtain samples of Beldalite from our present makers. I suggest that we should at once issue an emergency standardisation sheet, which need only be signed by Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}, BJ, for CJ, in CJs absence, and R, authorising us to go ahead with Stabalite whilst we carry on further experimenting to try and get out of our difficulty.
