1/35 FERODO LTD CHAPEL-EN-LE-FRITH STOCKPORT ENGLAND Telephone CHAPEL-EN-LE-FRITH 250 (7 lines) Telegrams FRICTION PHONE CHAPEL-EN-LE-FRITH TECHNICAL DEPT. 23rd August, 1939 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Ed.{J. L. Edwards}9/JH. WES/PW. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Experimental Department, Derby. For the attention of Mr. Edwards. Dear Sirs, We have to acknowledge your letter of the 22nd instant and may say that we have also received another letter from Mr. Leslie of your Buying Department, referring to the same matter. Ferogrip Fan Belt No. V.135 has a nominal inside circumference of 39.1/8" and as you have found this about 1/2" short, we suggest that you try No. V.114 which has exactly the same cross section and angle but has a nominal inside circumference of 40.1/2". It appears to us that this will just meet the case. Perhaps the best procedure will be for us to send you a belt immediately for trial and you can then check up its suitability without delay. We are sending a copy of this letter to your Buying Department, in view of their letter to us. With regard to your last paragraph, we now have the triangulated drive satisfactorily mounted and have had some preliminary trial runs this morning. Using the standard five blade fan already in our possession, the belt with its reduced wrap round both driving and fan pulleys appears to be incapable of transmitting the power even after increasing the tension on the belt. We are trying some further runs in order to ascertain if the drive will settle down to a stable condition, and cannot therefore yet give you a full report. However, you will wish to see the drive for yourselves, and perhaps you will come along as soon as possible in order to form a first-hand opinion of its possibilities. Yours faithfully, FERODO LIMITED. W.E.Shilton Manager, Technical Department. | ||
