There were six badly scored tappets, the others were deeply lined at the centre i.e, peak of cam changeover. There were 20 out of the 24 bottom tappet springs broken. This is the first case of this occurring, noticed at Cricklewood. The cams of the camshaft were worn on the peaks of 6 cams. These were to be stoned down. They were not scored.
