20/25 HP. BRAKES - INCREASED CLEARANCE.

EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}9/H.12.4.33.

We had carefully avoided in our memo BY.2/G.6.4.33. the suggestion that we should do the work retrospectively, as we did not consider there was a sufficient number of cars giving trouble at the time to justify such a proposal.

In regard to the Repair Department, Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} was already giving the increased clearance we called for, and we have no objection to a Depot Sheet being issued by Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} to call for the increased clearance on cars fitted with synchromesh gears.

We fully appreciated that the clearance we asked for could only be obtained by completely dismantling the hubs and re-fitting the brake shoes.

Our memo was written in conjunction with Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} who fully understood the position, as we discussed it with him verbally, and had definitely turned down the proposal for retrospective action, as the evidence at present does not justify the large amount of work which would be necessary.
