Referring to your scheme No.351, we send you herewith drawing No. Lec.1056, shewing a way of forming the hubs, which seems to be perhaps more orderly, and to make a plainer inside shape to the shell, so that the gauging of the hub would be a less difficult matter. There are one or two other small points of criticism. Mr. Royce thinks that the thread for the hub cap should be outside of the serrations (as shewn in sketch) which gives a hub cap of smaller bulk, more like the design we used to use for wood wheels. The hexagon on the cap should be made to suit the spanner already in existence. The thread on the axle tube should be made as large as possible, and the method of locking adopted should be by tab washer engaging with serrations on the end of the axle tube, the washer being held in position by a spring ring carried on the nut. [Stamp: D 20 FEB 1919 RECEIVED] It is, however, important, Mr. Royce thinks, that the nuts on the ends of the axle tubes should be of the correct (Contd.) | ||
