[Handwritten annotation at top]
He puts to R some sensible rationalisation ideas, to use some Goshawk electrics on the 40/50.
THESE IDEAS WERE LATER EMBODIED AND PROVED ON GEX AND PUT INTO PRODUCTION

40/50 CHASSIS.
X4165 ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT. √3461

[Main Body]
X4338 It will be necessary at no distant date to order up fresh material for some parts of the 40/50 HP. Chassis. We consider that we should not go on perpetuating the present electrical equipment on the 40/50 now that we have got something much better of our own design on the Goshawk. It would appear inconsistent for us to fit our own electrical equipment to the smaller car and to buy outside equipment for the more expensive large car.
Except for one or two minor modifications it is difficult to see why most of the electrical equipment designed for the Goshawk could not be used on the 40/50. *

DYNAMO. The requirements as regards lighting load and ignition load are identical on the two cars. The starter load would be greater on the 40/50 especially with a cold engine. We consider this would be provided for by the larger battery. The dynamo revs. per mile are greater on the Goshawk so that it might mean modifying the present Goshawk Generator. If this could be done by lengthening it, a great number of existing parts could still be used.

You will remember that owing to the modification of the winding we have saved on appreciable amount of end room on the machine which might be used to increase the output of the carcase. There is no reason why our generator could not be now driven by a pulley and slung in the same manner as the present Lucas machine.
