โ3682 To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RmL/LG14.7.27. PHANTOM IN U.S.A. โ8991 With reference to Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}2/T13.7.27. (1) STEERING. We believe that the two main reasons why the trouble is accentuated in the U.S.A. is :- (a) Wide tread American 6.75" tyres. (b) Extra weight over the front axle in the shape of bumpers. OY. appreciated both these points before he left Derby. Experimentally we are still carrying out extensive work on steerings. We believe we are making considerable progress. (2) POPPING IN THE SILENCER. Although Springfield do not give a good report on the roller bearing throttle and camshaft as fitted to 18-LF, we consider this modification to be a definite improvement, with regard to banging in the silencer. We are still investigating the difference between cars. One essential to minimise the trouble with the governor is a free working throttle with good bedding. (3) & (4). We have nothing to add to these items. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
