Details of Tests showing the operation of the Shutters under various conditions.

Car Stationary with engine running at 1000 R.P.M.
Atmosphere - 15°C, Fan belt removed.

1. Heating up test.
Starting from cold, shutters commence to open at 77°C, at 80°C they are at an angle of 30°, at 82°C the angle is increased to 45°, at 85°C = 67° & at 100°C the maximum movement of 70° is reached. Time from shutters starting to open till boiling = 6 min.

2. Cooling down test.
Cold Water added, engine still running, at drain cock. Shutters commenced to close when temperature of 82°C was reached, & gradually followed the drop in temperature until they closed at 73°C.

3. Car stationary, engine switched off with at water temperature of 80°C, & allowed to stand & cool down.
Readings taken of temperature at cylinder head, & position & angle of Shutters, (Atmos. = 15°C.) every 5 minutes.

Time in Minutes | Shutter Position | Temperature at 1. cy. head | 2. Thermostat
--- | --- | --- | ---
Engine running | 20° | 81°C | 69°C
after 5" standing | 35° | 77 | 75
" 10 " | 45° | 74 | 73
" 15 " | 37° | 71 | 72
" 20 " | 17° | 68.5 | 70.5
" 25 " | 5° | 65.5 | 69
" 30 " | Closed | 65 | 68.5

Engine was then started up, run for 2 minutes, when the temperatures were:-
Cy. head: 68°C.
Thermostat: 65°C.
