ENGINE FAILURE.
4¼-litre Chassis
No.B.47.RM.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}
Hutton.

Agent: Jack Olding.

Nothing known regarding owner or conditions under which failure occurred.

Confirming my telephone conversation with you this afternoon, we are returning to you tonight under cover of our advice note No. 71, the six connecting rods removed from the above chassis for your examination.

You will find that No.5 big end is out, No.3 has warmed up and several of the remainder shew hard bearing marks.

The oil level in the sump was O.K. when received. Its condition did not shew signs of dilution, or in other words, no new oil had been added. The oil lead to No.5 big end was clear.

No 5 crank pin is hardly marked and is reconditionable without dismantling.

As soon as further details come to hand, they will be forwarded to you, but apart from the information given above, nothing further is known, with the exception that the car was towed into K by the Agent with a request from him for us to rectify the trouble.

Mileage 796. Delivery date 3.11.36. My own personal opinion is that it is a case of flagrant over-revving a new engine.

K/KC.
