PHANTOM III 32-EX.

Report after 17,110 Miles in France.

An examination has been conducted on the above Chassis, which was recently received in the Shop following an endurance test in France. The following is a statement of the general condition of the units stripped for examination.

Engine Unit No. 13.

The general condition of the whole unit is good, apart from the failure of the big-end bearing.

Crankcase and Bearings LOP.E.87328.

E.88902. Top Half Crankcase, modified to E.88684, was free from cracks and in good condition.

E.87723. Lower Half Crankcase has been fouling exhaust system at the front end, as shown on Ex.I.214.

[Handwritten in margin: Always]

Main Bearings in Standard Production W/MT. with Standard W/MT.Liner

The general condition of these was poor; pieces of metal had broken away from the lower halves of Nos. 5 and 6 and the upper halves of Nos. 4, 5 and 7, No. 6 being particularly bad.

Whitemetal which had broken away from the big-end bearings had become superimposed upon the surfaces of the main bearings, and this will account for the apparent decrease in size shown on chart Ex.I.215 herewith. It was found impossible to remove this Whitemetal without damaging the bearings.

Photographs are issued with this report.
