In a letter received from Mr. J.H.Brown of 20 Mount Street, Manchester, who owns a Phantom II (133-XJ) he adda a postcript as follows:-

"As a matter of technical interest I should like to inform you that in 1928 and 1930 I ran a second car to the Rolls, each year 21/23,000 miles without decarbonising, whereas the Rolls needed it after say each 8/10,000 miles. In all cases the cars were running on the same oil and petrol. The other cars were, however, high compression engines. In my ignorance I attribute the advantage to the oil and air filters in use with the other cars."

Would you kindly give us your opinion on this matter, as we should naturally like to answer Mr Brown and give him any reasons which would account for the points which he raises.
