HOTEL DE FRANCE, CHATEAUROUX, Indre. France. To. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From. G.W.H. B. 56. BN.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} BENTLEY We have rebuilt the engine. At the moment we are dismantling the gear box to examine the Clutch. The Crank-damper has been checked and found to have a load of 17.1/2 lbs. plates and friction washer were in a good condition. We noticed while the bottom half was off that in certain positions of the crank, one half of the connecting rod bearing is left unmasked by the cutting down of the crank web. In this position one could see the clearance of the bearing. This must have an effect on the oil pressure as there is nothing to prevent the oil having a clear outlet. The sketch gives an idea of what we mean. We shall have the clutch down to-night, so far we cannot give any reason for the jagger other than the slack in the drive. G.W.H. | ||
