COPY To. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to BY/CS. 1044 G.Mc.1/MJ.22.7.381 B.60 ENGINE CYLINDER HEAD The following points are put forward for your consideration :- REASONS (1) Can the forward dowel and oil feed holes be increased to .3125 reaming allowance. A change of tools would be avoided. (2) Would it affect the water circulation too much to drill the 21 holes, now called for .375" if these were reduced to .3437 + 10 as required for the studs. A change of tools would be avoided. (3) Is it possible for the tab washer hole shown in Section DD. to be drilled .265" instead of .250" and the centre widened 1/8". This would enable the hole to be tapped while the piece is in the jig and cut out one drill change. (4) The core plug hole called for .7031" (lower view sheet II) might be considered with a view to bringing this in line with the three .828" holes. Should this be impossible due to the internal bosses, the three could be reduced to .7031 as this should be ample for the foundry. The former scheme would be the better and allow more room for clearing away the sand. Both sides could then be drilled without tool change and only one type of plug required, if the .828" is possible. (5) The water outlet as shown, would not clear the vapour from the top of the head the outlet being some 1/4" below the top of water jacket. Have I read the drawing correctly ? RHC{R. H.
