RE: JOINING UNIVERSAL JOINT TO PROPELLER SHAFT. Referring to the propellershaft, which came adrift, being the second of this type to fail, after giving this matter careful consideration I am satisfied that we have not a sufficient number of pins in the joint. I have therefore decided that we will double the number of pins in the joint, use short 1/4" taper pins instead of long pins passing right through, but I would still like to continue with the sweating as a further safeguard. In putting in the short taper pins it will be necessary to machine ream the holes to a gauge, so that each pin when inserted by hand stands between .050 and .075 clear of the tube, it should be then driven in until the head is flush. This will ensure a good fit on each pin, and the number of pins will be sufficient to take the drive. FJH{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} Weld the tube where bitten hard for trial G.Ry BY.{R.W.
