COMPRESSION IGNITION ENGINE.

This engine is now rigged up again in No.4 Test House and we have already run approximately six hours. As this time has been necessary to run-in the new big end bearing in BL-2 Alloy, we have no investigation work to report this month.

Our programme for the immediate future consists of work on the rotational swirl induced by inlet valves having integral masks. By this method we are expecting to induce a degree of swirl far greater than we have attained previously. There will also be a considerable amount of investigation required to evolve an efficient nozzle to meet the altered swirl conditions.
