30/25.HP. Low Rating Springs.

When, in extreme cases, the foregoing is of no avail it may be necessary to resort to low ratings springs.

The best shock damper setting will depend to a great extent on the particular conditions under which the car will be used, but generally speaking the most comfortable springing up to 40-50 m.p.h. is provided by the setting marked BF-20 and BR-20.

Conditions may arise when it is necessary to provide better road holding qualities than are afforded by the above setting, and if so the setting marked BF-20A and BR-20A should be used. It will be seen that the leak area is reduced by approximately 40%.

3. Phantom I.

On these cars it is essential to fit grooved and plated springs in order to obtain a reasonably comfortable suspension and the best shock damper setting for English conditions is that marked AF and AR-2.

The damping thus provided may be insufficient for Continental conditions and it may be necessary to fit valves with only an .061 hole in order to provide greater stability in the springing.

4. Phantom II Standard Springs.

The present rear shock damper loading of 30/35 lbs may be insufficient when the car is driven fast over undulating roads, and the loading AR-5 materially reduces the tendency to pitch and bounce. Complaints of poor low speed riding on these cars may be due to lack of lubrication of the rear springs leaves - particularly the rear end - and the existing S2 drip plugs should be replaced by S3 type plugs.

5. Phantom II Low Rating Springs.

Here again it is necessary to effect some compromise in regard to the shock damper setting, depending on the conditions under which the car is used. The settings BF-5 and BR-5 provides the maximum freedom to the springs, and is used on all cars going to U.S.A. For English conditions it is admirable for old ladies and invalids, and also for town carriages. etc.
