With reference to BJ's complaint of heat under the scuttle on the above car. The scuttle ventilation on this car is about the average. It has two side ventilators and one large one at the top of the scuttle. We have appreciated for some time that these do not give one sufficient ventilation - some of the open cars I have seen in London recently have had better scuttle ventilation than that on 2.EX Car.

There is no reason why this 10,000 miles Car should be worse than the pre-war cars except if the blanking plates were fixed to the radiator.

One would naturally assume, however, that if the floor-board temperature is uncomfortably hot, the atmospheric temperature is high, therefore the plates would have to be removed from the radiator to prevent the water boiling.

It has been found that the most effective way of ventilating the scuttle is to make use of the wind-screen as a ventilation. We know that Mr. Spinney realises this and has been working on the ventilator to produce similar results.

* We do not consider it practical to remove the under-shield. We rely on that to protect such vital parts as Dynamo and Dynamo drive from water and mud. *
