X 9940 To DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} & E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} S E C R E T. R5/M22.3.24. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C. BRAKES. X.9940 MEETING AT LE CANADELHenry Royce's French residence. (RG.{Mr Rowledge} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} & R.{Sir Henry Royce}) We are going on with agreed scheme (without ratchet) but with Mr. Rowledge's DES.60. scheme embodied, (to be patented with RG{Mr Rowledge}'s patent). In future we shall endeavour to improve this by double ratchets to take up the slack,(to be patented by RG{Mr Rowledge}'s patent). Or we may try my double ratchet drive. This is, or should be patented, as being a hopeful and rather more perfect scheme, which DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} can try over as a design when time permits. Gears as shewn give slow speed forward, higher speed backward if desired, or vice versa; noisy ratchet forward, silent type rearward is desirable. There is also the screw thread cone type of silent clutch. R.{Sir Henry Royce} SEE ORIGINAL FOR SKETCH. | ||
