I note that the trouble on the Trials car was due to the gear lever, but this was nothing to do with London. The only modification we have carried out on this car was in May 1940 when we first put it on the road. Then Hythe Road did a simple modification which did not necessitate interfering with the change speed gate.

When the car broke down outside Lillie Hall when being driven by your man, it was taken to Hythe Road, and they then carried out the following work:-

Remove change speed gate, shaft and pendulum lever.
Draw the holes where the gate is bolted on to the chassis frame 1/16" to re-align the shaft.
The change speed gate then had to be packed up from the chassis with a packing piece 1/8" thick.

I thought it just as well to mention this for the sake of correct records.

I note it has now been agreed that you may make six new gearboxes, so that we could let the Duke of Kent have one of these cars, but I do not feel inclined to open this matter again with Field until I really have a car to offer.

I note that Pomeroy has asked if he can have the car on March 8th/9th in order to convince himself that the maximum speed is 95 m.p.h. or better, and I will endeavour to fix this up with him direct.
