Ref. 125(ii) XJ93 Copy of Minute 2 of the 125th Meeting of the Technical Committee. Mr Spinney 1-11-12 TBB3/L11112. Re Austrian-Alpine Trials Car. Mr Nadin informed the Committee that Mr Spinney had received instructions to set out this type with the L to E body. Mr Spinney had communicated with Paris, informing them that he was of the opinion that the general appearance would be bulky and unsatisfactory. Paris had placed the matter before Mr Johnson and he had instructed us that a chassis was to be designed for an L to E body and was to have 25 centimetres ground clearance. Mr Spinney had set this car out and he now submitted the drawings to the Committee. Mr Spinney pointed out that the general effect of the design was that the bonnet looked enormous and the driver might experience some difficulty in obtaining a satisfactory view of the road. Mr Spinney suggested that it would be preferable to fit a standard bonnet (i.e. not appreciably tapered) and a flat dashboard, he thought this would reduce the clumsy effect of the present design.
