312. To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to By/NS.{Norman Scott} Phantom III. re Elimination of Oilite Bush. There is now almost completed a scheme incorporating the following features. (a) Ball bearing (a Hoffman standard) replacing oilite bush. (b) Four finger clutch. (c) Extra inertia. (d) 30 H.P. type starter. In view of the fact that cases of complaint of not stopping can be greatly improved by re-alignment of the engine and gearbox, and lubrication of the oilite bush, we do not recommend that the scheme GCD.531 for applying a ball bearing to customers cars, be proceeded with as the special ball bearing alone would cost 12/- and the total at least 21/- without fitting time. Moreover there has been very few actual complaints of this trouble. | ||
